What is Spark Skills?

Spark Skills is our whole-school framework for developing the skills every student needs to thrive, not just in school, but in life. It has five strands:

🧠 EF Skills
Executive Function skills, the brain skills that help students plan, focus, remember, and manage their emotions. We teach these explicitly every day in Daily Spark.
💛 SEL
Social-Emotional Learning, self-awareness, relationships, decision-making. The skills that help students work well with others and manage their emotional lives.
⭐ Values
Six school values, Kindness, Respect, Belonging, Responsibility, Integrity, Curiosity. Students earn credentials as they demonstrate these values in school life.
📚 ATL & 🌟 Leadership
IB Approaches to Learning and a progressive Leadership roadmap from KG to Grade 12, developing every student's capacity to contribute and lead.
What do the support tiers mean?

All students at Dwight School Seoul receive support. The level of support is described in three tiers, this does not indicate a problem with your child. It describes how we are designing for their needs.

Tier 1, All students
Your child's teacher is using Universal Design for Learning, planning lessons so every student can access and succeed. Daily Spark, Zones of Regulation, and the Spark Skills framework are all Tier 1.
Tier 2, Targeted support
Your child is receiving some additional support, small group sessions, check-ins with a Quest Specialist, or specific strategies in the classroom. This is proactive and positive. We will contact you to discuss.
Tier 3, Intensive and individualized
Your child has an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and is receiving regular, intensive support. You will be fully involved in this, the ILP is co-written with you and reviewed with you regularly.
